The project
Prepare for the Unexpected was made to challenge and change how young drivers behave on country roads. It puts the viewer in the driver’s seat on the drive home, as a passenger has some big news to announce and the road throws up hazards: a car, a tractor, a deer.
Infinite Content produced it for the Leith Agency, and Simon Hunter directed. It was filmed over two days: one driving through the Scottish countryside for the view out of the car, the other in a green-screen studio for the actors inside it. The film was graded to look like night, though it was shot in daylight, and Process tracked the footage and composited in most of the hazards as CGI.
What we did
We were the film’s VR director of photography, on location and in the studio; it was shot on an Insta360 Pro and a GoPro Fusion 360. We then stitched the footage and plated out the shots, ready for Process to add the visual effects.
How it was shown
The Scottish Government published the film on YouTube in June 2018, and it had more than 830,000 views there by September 2026.
Infinite Content also built an app for the Oculus Go headset that works offline, so the campaign could show the film in rural areas with little or no wifi. In July 2018 the Press and Journal reported that fans at the Scottish Open could try it that weekend, and that it would go on to Knockhill, Butefest, Belladrum and the Aberdeen Sports Village.
