The project
The first three World Nomad Games, in 2014, 2016 and 2018, were held in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan. We filmed the third, in September 2018.
What we did
We filmed horse archery, eagle hunting, nomadic wrestling, life in the yurts, and kok-buru, a game like rugby played on horseback. The nomads gave us a very warm welcome.
On Arte
The TRACKS segment on the Games followed the wrestler Lavell Marshall and the archer Aslanayim Ashirora. It was on arte.tv from January 2019 to January 2020 and is no longer available there, but Arte’s page for it survives in the Internet Archive.
